Requirements
  • Have access to a PC and fast internet connection in order to complete this course. System requirements: Windows 7, 8, 10. Updated Browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera. Desktop, tablet and mobile views are available.
  • Be IT literate, i.e. access, browse and navigate through the learning platform, create,edit and submit documents, play/download audios/videos, use email and skype etc.
  • Be 16+ years of age
  • Commit to a learning/assessment schedule in order to complete the course successfully. Estimated study time per week is around 8 hours, including tests and tutorial(s). Note that this is only an estimation, the actual study time will depend on the individual.
  • Be A1 Users/CEFR= have completed Entry level 1 or take our Placement Test

Description

Method of Study: This is an online self-study English course which benefits from Tutor Support. Regular tutor feedback is provided at the end of each Unit to increase  students' awareness of their academic strengths and weaknesses.

The learning materials for this online course cover ESOL Entry level 2; A2/CEFR.

​Course Duration:  approximately 100 GLH.

The course must be completed within 12 weeks. Extensions may be applied under the special circumstances rule (see T&C).

24 hours/7 days a week access to the learning platform

Course content:


1. Initial assessment and outline of learner's objectives.

    All four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are practiced using everyday topics and situations. 

    Type of materials used: Word document work sheets, PDFs, Audios, Videos, Interactive activities, Online Quizzes

2. Unit 1: Essential vocabulary and use of common phrases 

    Greeting and introducing yourself

​    Blending sounds

​    Time of the day

    Short Form filling 

    Listening and pronunciation

    Making notes/answering questions from audio recordings (approx.30 audios in this Unit)

    Functions (describe familiar people, give personal information, ask questions, apologise, give reason etc.)

​    Question forms

    Interactive activities

    Some of the topics include: me and my family, work, homes, community and neighbourhood, shopping, health etc.

3. Unit 2: Listening-Speaking, participating in conversations

    Giving and following directions, signs

    Collocations 

    Travel

    Speaking lesson via our platform

    Booking appointments

    Jobs

    Reading, short text comprehension, emails

4. Unit 3: Sentence structure- nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, articles

    Linkers and vocabulary

    Definitions, types and functions of the different word classes

    Subject and object- roles in a sentence

    Using some, any and none

5. Unit 4: Present, past and future tenses

    Forms and uses of the present, past and future tenses

    Filling out Application forms 

    Talking about yourself in detail

    Differentiate between texts

    Letter to work (introduction to formal writing)
