What will i learn?
  • The course consists of 4 Units (please, see course content for more info) and 5 tutor-marked assessments. ​Speaking lesson with ESOL Tutor (if you choose not to attend the lesson, speaking with not be included in your certificate) Upon successful completion of this course each student will be awarded a Certificate of completion which will reflect the marks achieved. Certificates are posted free of charge to UK addresses only. In order to successfully complete this course students must achieve a PASS for each Unit.

Requirements
  • You must have access to a PC and fast internet connection in order to complete this course. System requirements: Windows 7, 8, 10. Updated Browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera. Accessibility: Desktop, tablet and mobile views are available. ​
  • You should be IT literate, i.e. access, browse and navigate through the learning platform, create,edit and submit documents, play & download audios & videos, use email and skype etc.
  • You are 16+ years of age (if under 16 years of age, parent's consent is required).
  • You are required to commit to a learning/assessment schedule in order to complete your course successfully. Estimated study time per week is around 6-8 hours, including tests, assignments and tutorials. Note that this is only an estimation, the actual study time will depend on the individual.

Description

Method of Study: This is an online self-study English course which benefits from Tutor Support. Regular tutor feedback is provided at the end of each Unit to increase  students' awareness of their academic strengths and weaknesses.

The learning materials for this online course cover ESOL Entry level 3; B1/CEFR.

Course Duration: approximately 100 GLH.

The course must be completed within 12 weeks. Extensions may be applied under the special circumstances rule (see T&C). 24 hours/7 days a week access to the learning platform

The focus of this course is predominately on grammar and communication skills. 

Topics studied: Life in the UK, Work, Relationships, Consumer, Services, Health, Travel and more. 

1. Initial assessment and outline of learner's objectives.

  • All four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are practiced using everyday topics and situations. 
  • Type of materials used: Word document work sheets, PDFs, Audios, Videos, Interactive tests/quizzes,

  • Vocabulary

  • Word classes (all)
  • Functional language: advising, describing, explaining
  • Gerund and infinitive
  • Listening for gist and for specific information, pronunciation
  • Reading comprehension

3. Unit 2:

  • Grammar
  • Perfect Tenses
  • Roles of the different parts of speech in a sentence
  • Conditional forms

  • Main and subordinate clauses

4. Unit 3:

  • Working with texts
  • From theory to practice
  • Types of texts  
  • Sequencing events
  • Intensifiers 
  • Coherence and Cohesion 
  • Simple, complex and compound sentences
  • Describing main ideas in a text, explaining a point of view

5. Unit 4: 

  • Formal communication .
  • Developing communication skills, making enquiries. 
  • Work vocabulary, forms and interviews skills
  • How to write efficient letters and emails- formal and informal language
